Your way to your own audiobook

Each History of life It is worth being told and left behind. That's why we create the biographies of incurably ill people for eternity as a gift for the future.

The narratives are dramaturgically designed using state-of-the-art techniques of audiojournalism (special structure/structure/editing). After the death of a parent, the audiobooks support the surviving family, especially the children, in the Sorrow management and accompany them individually.

The family audiobooks are from mother or father himself and narrated in his own voice. Personally. Lovingly. It's authentic. For us, authenticity also means giving space to linguistic and cultural influences.

The family audiobook is financed exclusively through donations and is free of charge for participants.

Recording an audiobook

You will receive your finished family audiobook as audio files via a data-protected transfer service. We will be happy to advise you if you would also like to make a haptic gift ‘touchable’ from it, which you can hand over to your loved ones.

Marcel has also recorded a family audiobook and describes in great detail in a podcast at the BR his experiences with the preparation for the recordings and the interview situation:

From time to time, our project participants release small original excerpts from their family audiobooks, which can serve as an example for others:

You tell your life story gradually, in individual chapters that are important to you. Experienced journalists, who are all certified audio biographers, accompany you through your memories.

We support you in the preparation. You can read stories for your children, sing songs, quote from previous letters, perform poems or bring in sound material from your life (cassette recorder / sound material from old holiday videos or the like). You choose pieces of music that are important to you, tell about concerts, movies or the favorite shows of your childhood. At the end of the interview phase, your audio biographer will work with you to develop a table of contents, a foreword and an afterword so that the individual chapters of your family audiobook, which usually lasts several hours, can be selected more easily.

After the recordings, we produce your audiobook with professional sound designers from the interview and sound material. This makes your family audiobook both a very personal document of your life, as well as an audiobook with everyday, cultural and family stories of our time.

No one has to bring own resources for "his family audiobook", because relatives or friends of former participants have already collected donations and made them available to Familienhörbuch gGmbH for their work. However, in order to secure future productions and to offer other affected persons the opportunity to record a free audiobook, we ask all participants and their families, relatives and friends to also collect donations.

Do you have any experience with donations or benefit campaigns? No problem! We take you by the hand and stand by your side. Get in touch with our fundraising team: spenden@familienhoerbuch.de.

We can schedule an appropriate amount of time for the interviews in your circumstances and record the sound recordings in the recording studio, but also in the hospital, hospice or home, if your forces no longer allow interviews lasting several hours. And if it's too dreary at home and you don't have peace of mind, we'll find a solution for that too.

Our audio biographers are professional journalists who have been trained at the Academy of Palliative Medicine in Bonn under the direction of Prof. Radbruch, Director of the Palliative Care Clinic Bonn, and Judith Grümmer. Our sound designers, who then prepare your recordings and musically inferior, are also continuously trained and are aware of the high responsibility of their task.

The participants included in the project will be provided with a psychological crisis intervention during the duration of the project.
