What is the Family Audiobook?
We offer all underage children of terminally ill mothers and fathers the chance to receive a family audiobook: With mom or dad's voice. A personally narrated audio piece full of love, memories and lifelong answers to the question: ‘Who were you, Mom/Dad?’ Timely. Free of charge. Unbureaucratic.
What began as a vision quickly became a mission. Since the pilot phase in 2017, more than 700 ill parents have been accepted into the project and more than 1,200 children already have the opportunity to grow up with a family audiobook.
Since 2017, the family audiobook has been scientifically accompanied by a variety of studies. This ensures that the family audiobook is based on a solid foundation and is continuously developed. Background information and links to relevant publications

Implementation in the solidarity principle
At this time, Familienhörbuch gGmbH is financed exclusively by donations and subsidies. This means: Individuals, companies and foundations are jointly committed to ensuring that closeness, memories and comfort can be an integral part of our project families.
Many project participants also see this approach as a kind of generational contract. They themselves proactively collect donations in the circle of friends and family for the mothers and fathers who hope for a project recording after them in order to be able to leave memories. High standards
The family audiobook attaches great importance to quality. In addition to the trend-setting training series for audio biographers (cooperation with the Academy of Palliative Medicine Bonn), a continuous, accompanying training course for all Team members to the fixed program.
The fact that one's own life story is saved as a kind of backup, self-determinedly recorded and filled up with a lot of love for the little ones, sometimes enables a completely new way of coming into conversation in the family association. That's why we're especially happy when the sick parent introduces the recordings to their loved ones while they're still alive.
